Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
15 year old Sara is screaming! I LOVED this book when I was in high school. One of my best friends (hey Gerb!) and I read all 3 books in this series in no time. So I wanted to take a chance and re-read them again.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Is your typical summer romance about two families who go to the same beach house every summer. Belly, her brother Steven, their mom, and the Becks – Conrad, Jeremiah and Susannah spend every summer at Cousins Beach soaking up the summer sun because for Belly summer is a time for happiness and fun. Our main character, Belly is very likable. She is easy to follow along and I believe to be very relatable to a teen girl. Steven is your typical big brother, always a pain in the butt, but always there to pick you when when you need him. Jeremiah is the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet and is Belly’s best friend. As for Conrad, he’s Belly’s first love. No matter how many times he’s mean to her or pushes her away, she just keeps running back for more.
Overall the story was very easy to follow along and was a great pace. As heartbreaking it was to read this book the first time it was as equally hard and heartbreaking the second time. This book builds it up to end on a happy note and then whips you in a totally different direction. Han’s writing is easy to follow and this book is a very quick read. She really paints the picture of what summer should be like. Simple characters with a somewhat simple story. Perfect summer read. I can’t wait to re-read the next two books in the series.
Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read from me.
